Today we’ve tested Paperboat 4, the first bio-degradable boat. The boat is constructed with used cardboard and old newspapers, and the glue is solely made of organic materials. So you can throw it on the compost heap after use! And next year it could become a beautiful flower.
Since we made a canoe we thought we might as well test it in the waves on the beach in Scheveningen.
And it survived the forces of nature!
Our Paperboat traveled to Giethoorn to be a part of Sail Giethoorn this year. The little boat looked really tiny but hopeful amongst all those magnificent old sailboats.
The event took place from June 12 to 14, 2014.
And our thanks to ADIGRA.nl for the great photographs!
On the 8th of June we launched the ‘Paperboat Race’ together with Duurzaam Den Haag at the North Sea Regatta in Scheveningen. Caspar Bouman kindly agreed to be our test pilot, because it was the first time our little Paperboat was launched in salt water.
But it withstood the sea remarkably well!
On March 29th we participated in the ‘Blijf weg van het Malieveld‘ happening again, an ongoing experimental exhibition/workspace between 11 and 12 at the Malieveld in Den Haag. Other participating artist were: Topp&Dubio, Kees Koomen and Ellen Rodenberg
Today we executed the performance ‘One’.
In ‘One’ we draw a circle by means of our combined body movements and water.
The performance was inspired by artists like Rembrand van Rijn and other old masters, who used circles in their work to demonstrate the skill of the master.
Today we participated in the online symposium ‘Waterwheel’ with a presentation of our Paperboat project. We were delighted see all the other projects and to meet the other participants. Our session ‘Activism, Art & Science’ contained presentations of Paula Vélez Bravo, Jean Noël Montagné and Rob van Kranenbrug about the Ark0 and the OSWASH (open source washing machine), Mari Keski-Korsu about energy resources and activism and Lila Moore with a presentation about Water e-motion.
Our Paperboat project is nominated for the ‘Haagse Lift’ Competition, an annual Dutch prize for sustainable and innovative projects. The 10 nominees were requested to do a real elevator pitch in the 42 storeys high landmark, the ‘Haagse Toren’. During this one minute journey to the top of the building we had to present our project while the presentation was being recorded on film for the jury. The winner will be announced at the Haagse communicatiedag 2014 in theatre ‘de Appel’ on March 4th 2014.
